Student Reports
How hard is the A?
A is doable but not automatic
The signal here is more do-the-work-and-you-should-be-fine than easy-A chatter. Students do not describe the A as automatic, but the evidence also does not paint grading as punishing.
Homework Load
Moderate homework load
Homework load looks moderate. The recurring signal is steady weekly work, but not a course that turns every assignment into a grind.
Lecture Load
Lecture load is mixed
Lecture burden appears to vary by section. Some comments describe a discussion-driven format, while others emphasize denser or more central lectures.
Strengths
Readings, films, or outside materials come up repeatedly as a real strength rather than filler.
Discussion is a clear strength; students repeatedly describe the class conversation as engaging and useful.
Students repeatedly say the course teaches something concrete, whether that is content mastery, research skill, or a strong foundation.
Tradeoffs
There is no single dominant complaint theme, but the feedback is not uniformly glowing either.
Best fit for
Best for students who will engage with the materials instead of skimming everything.

Student Responses

Understanding the foundation of K-Pop history, the factors that influence K-Pop this day in age, and the life that K-Pop idols live.

Before this course I knew absolutely nothing about K-Pop. Now I know the history, challenges, politics, and so much more that involves a plethora of idols / groups and could explain it to anyone who asks me. Not only did I learn about the music industry, but I learned about the government and the state of South Korea as a whole, and how it can all be related to K-pop. Finally, I learned to be open-minded. There are so many different ways to spin stories and the way the media twists them is usually for the worst. It's important to do your own research and formulate your opinion on hefty topics, and I learned this from all the political situation that were taking place in the industry.

1. I learned about the deeper relationship between the evolution of Korean popular music and Korean history and how they mutually influence each other in various aspects. 2. I learned about the various business strategies that Korean entertainment companies would employ to effectively market their groups 3. I learned about how K-pop fans influence not only the success of K-pop groups but also societal issues
